Clavicle (Collar Bone) Fractures (Continued)

Case 3: This is a 32yo male who fell from his bike resulting in a fractured clavicle in 4 separate pieces that are quite displaced. Image 1 shows the initial XRay prior to surgery and image 2 shows how the fracture has been fixed with a plate and screws putting the clavicle back into its original alignment.

This fracture healed in 6 weeks and full function was regained.

Case 4: This is a 26 year old Olympic swimmer who fractured his clavicle playing touch football.

Image 1 shows the clavicle fractured in 2 pieces.

Image 2 shows the clavicle fixed with a plate and screws. The clavicle was fixed through a 4cm incision. The fracture was fully healed in 5 weeks and the patient returned to swimming in 4 weeks. He made a full recovery.

Case 5: This is an 18 year old male who fractured his clavicle playing rugby.

Image 1 shows a fractured clavicle that is quite angulated. This patient had a lot of shortening of his shoulder and the bone was prominent under the skin.

Image 2 shows the fracture fixed with a 6 hole plate and screws. The patient did well and returned to contact sport 8 weeks after the fracture was fixed.

Case 6: This is 45 year old lady who fell from a horse fracturing her clavicle in at least 3 pieces.

Image 1 shows the fracture through the midpart of the clavicle and that it is in 3 pieces or more and displaced.

Image 2 shows the fracture fixed with plate and screws and 2 screws going in different directions to the plate to hold the separate fragments of bone in place.
